Abbey of Cwmhir Study Group

Investigate Radnorshire’s Abbey through the journal articles that have been written about it.

Play detective and check out the History Makers.

If this interests you, come to our next meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month at 1400 hrs. It's never too late to join in.*

Venue: Celf O Gwmpas,Tremont Road, Llandrindod Wells LD1 5EB(Parking up the road at the side in Tremont School just behind).

This is an ongoing reading and discussion group focussing on the main events and issues in the history of the Abbey of Cwmhir meeting on the fouth Thursday of the month. We just need to cover costs which will not be more than £5 each to pay for room hire, tea and coffee.

The idea is that before each meeting people will read an agreed journal article from which we will draw out the main themes and stories about the Abbey through discussion. Help will be offered to access the articles. They are available on or through the Next Meeting tab on this web site or through contact:admin.studygroup@abbeycwmhirhistory.org.uk (01597 851021).

If you are not very computerate we suggest you ask a friend or go to a library and ask them to help you print the papers out.

*The article for the next meeting is available by clicking on the Study Group tab above and then the sub tab - next meeting.

The Abbeycwmhir Heritage Trust pays tribute to the publishers of the journals which we are consulting and thanks them for making them available on the web and in libraries. In particular we thank the Radnorshire Society Transactions, Archaeologica Cambrensis, the Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion and Powys Libraries.

The image at the top of the page is of the only surviving Common Seal of the Abbey of Cwmhir on a document of 1533. This is a damaged fragment set in wax by the UK National Archive, Kew.
